Cometary impact rates onto neutron stars and white dwarfs.
Abstract
It has been suggested that the infall of a comet onto the surface of a neutron star could give rise to a gamma-ray burst. The various circumstances under which comets may make a close passage to a degenerate star are briefly reviewed. Emphasis is given to the determination of impact rates or recurrence times which different versions of the comet model predict.
