ORFEUS - scientific targets and optical performance.
Abstract
ORFEUS (Orbital and Retrievable Far and Extreme Ultraviolet Spectrometer) is the first short term scientific space payload of the free flying and retrievable ASTRO-SPAS satellite scheduled to be launched in Feb 1993. The autonomous scientific mission is limited to 5 until 7 days. The main scientific objectives are cosmic targets with photospheric temperatures between 104 and 106K. ORFEUS is a powerful combination of two alternatively operating spectrometers (Echelle, Berkeley) covering the far and extreme ultraviolet spectral range.
