Some data on IC 5283, a neighbor of NGC 7469
Abstract
We have observed IC 5283, a neighbor of the well-known Seyfert galaxy NGC 7469, using the 2.6-m telescope at Byurakan Observatory with interference filters in the continuum and at Hα and [N II]λ6584. We conducted a comparative morphological study of the galaxy, and used the [N II]Hα ratio to calculate the nitrogen abundance distribution empirically. We found that the galaxy has two spiral arms, with differing rates of star formation; that the radial distribution of hydrogen abundance and its mean value are typical of late-type spirals; and that we could detect no azimuthal variation in the nitrogen abundance or variation along a spiral arm.
