Study of Hadronic Production of Charmonium States in Open Geometry.
Abstract
Fermilab experiment E705 was initiated to study the dynamics of hadroproduction of cc bound states, using a large acceptance forward spectrometer and 300 GeV/c beams of pi^+, pi ^-, p and | p incident on a lithium target. Final states containing psi and psi^' decay into mu^+mu^ - were recorded. This thesis concentrated on events containing fully reconstructed pi^0 's to study the psipi^0 and psipi^0pi ^+/- correlations. The former data indicate a ^1P_1(3526) signal at the 2.5sigma<=vel. The latter final state was carefully examined for indications of hadro -molecular states in the 3800 MeV/c^2 mass region. The results are indecisive due primarily to limited statistical accuracy.
