Widths of Hypernuclear Λ and Σ SingleParticle States
Abstract
Widths of Λ singleparticle levels in finite nuclei due to ΛN > ΛN Auger transitions are calculated, using densitydependent effective ΛN interactions derived from the Nijmegen softcore OBE potential. The results show that the Λ width in nuclei is very small, and is consistent with experiment. Next we consider Σ^{0} states in nuclei. First, the mean field for the Σ constructed from a new effective ΣN force is discussed. Then, the Σ > Λ conversion width of the Σ^{0} 0sstate in ^{40}Ca is evaluated. In this case the width is about 11 MeV and 5.7 MeV for the effective ΣN > ΛN transition potentials based on the Nijmegen softcore OBE potential and the model D, respectively.
