Characteristics of Two Gamma-Ray Flares Observed with the Wide-Band Spectrometer aboard YOHKOH
Abstract
Gamma-ray flares were observed with the Yohkoh Wide-Band Spectrometer (WBS) on 1991 October 27, and 1991 December 3. The October 27 flare (X6.1/3B) shows a strong gamma-ray line emission and different light curves between hard X-rays and gamma-ray lines, while the December 3 flare (X2.0/2B) shows a double power-law spectrum and similar light curves over a wide energy range. These results imply that the electron-to-proton ratio in flares varies greatly from flare to flare. The characteristics of two gamma-ray flares are described and the particle acceleration process is discussed on the basis of the light curve and energy spectrum.
