A HigherOrder Godunov Method for the Equations of Ideal Magnetohydrodynamics
Abstract
A higherorder Godunov method for the equations of ideal MHD is presently developed with a view to the clarification of the role of magnetic fields in astrophysical jets. The method treats the MHD equations as a hyperbolic system of conservation laws whose weak solutions are uniquely determined by the entropy conditions for such systems. A complete set of right and left eigenvectors is presented for the 1D projection of the MHD equations.
