Imaging the 3.4-μm feature in Comet Levy (1990c)
Abstract
We observed the organic emission feature which peaks near 3.36 μm in Comet Levy (1990c) on 1990 August 08 and 10 with the ProtoCAM at the Infrared Telescope Facility. In this paper we present the first two-dimensional images of the spatial distribution of the 3.4-μm organic emission in a comet. We find that the brightness profile of the emission is statistically indistinguishable from that of the dust continuum within 1225 km from the nucleus.
