Early cretaceous serpulid limestones: Chachao formation, Neuquen basin, Argentina
Abstract
Colonial serpulids (Sarcinella) are common within some limestones of the lower Chachao Formation (Valanginian) near Malargüe city at the northern border of the Neuquem basin, Argentina. The shallowing-upwards sequence is characterized by low-energetic micritic carbonates. The serpulid limestones mark the transition from a carbonate ramp stage to a platform stage.
