A gravitational mechanism for the appearance of divisions in Saturn's ring
Abstract
Purely gravitational effects in the Saturn/ring particles/Mimas system are investigated in order to qualitatively interpret the structure of Saturn's ring. It is shown that the gravitational effects of the interaction conditioned by the orbital commensurability in the 2D circular three-body problem make it possible to qualitatively interpret the presence of divisions in Saturn's ring and, in particular, that of the Cassini division.
