The DRAO galactic-plane survey. III. Field at L = 85.
Abstract
This paper presents the third field, centred on l = 85^deg^ and b = 1.5^deg^, of a survey of the Galactic plane with the DRAO Synthesis Telescope. At 408 MHz, a circular region with a radius of 242 arcmin has been mapped with a resolution of 4.8 X 3.5 arcmin^2^ (NS x EW). At 1420 MHz, a continuum image with a 78 arcmin radius and a resolution of 1.4 X 1.0 arcmin^2^ has been produced. At both frequencies, positions and flux densities of compact sources outside regions of extended emission have been derived down to the 10σ level. There are 91 and 94 compact sources identified at 408 and 1420 MHz respectively. Integrated flux densities have also been derived for regions of extended emission. Amongst these there are many thermal sources and two supernova remnants, G84.2-0.8 and G85.3-0.8, the latter being identified for the first time. Also presented are neutral hydrogen line maps of 1^deg^ radius. These have been smoothed to an angular resolution of 2 arcmin and a velocity resolution of 8 km/s. HI features worth noting are a filament approximately aligned with the Galactic plane and a positive velocity cloud. For both the continuum and the HI images, data from single dish observations have been added to the Synthesis Telescope data in order that the final images include emission from all scales down to their resolution.
