Pre-shell phase photometric stability in OMI Andromedae.
Abstract
The different time scales involved in the Be phenomenon in Omicron Andromedae and their photometric detection are discussed focusing on the appearance of the Be and shell phases and the amplitude increase of the short period. Longitude-coordinated high-precision photometry shows that a few weeks before the beginning of a strong Be and shell phase (1988) there were variations of a few millimagnitudes amplitude, i.e., just over the detection threshold. The classical 1.57 d double-wave period is still detected, indicating that it probably never fades out completely. These variations can be interpreted as normal photometric activity in a regular rotating B star.
