Detailed examination and extensions to infrared band model calculations including Doppler shift effects
Abstract
The effect of the Doppler line shift due to a gas velocity along the line of sight is considered, and a previous work done on including the effect into efficient band-model calculations is reviewed. Line-by-line calculations of the CO2 spectrum from 2000/cm to 2500/cm for a particular gas generator expansion, including the effects of vibrational relaxation and Doppler shift are performed and compared to the broadband calculations and data. It is observed that the method of inclusion of Doppler effects into the band models is insufficient for the accurate predictions of spectral radiance. An extended model developed is found to be capable of predicting the band center radiance to within 3 pct of the measured data.
