Filigree and flux tube physics.
Abstract
This review covers the properties of the small-scale (outside sunspots) magnetic field from observational and theoretical points of view. Special emphasis is put on the physics of small isolated magnetic concentrations (flux tubes). Topics discussed include the basic observational properties, the origin and disappearance of the small-scale field, the properties of individual magnetic elements, their influence on the solar irradiance and their interaction with solar oscillations.
