A new synchronization technique for convolutional periodic interleavers
Abstract
A new synchronization technique for convolutional periodic interleavers is presented. The technique depends on synch statistics (likelihood calculations) based on the undecoded data stream at the convolutional deinterleaver's output. These statistics are used to discriminate in a pairwise manner between the in sync out of sync states of the convolutional deinterleaver. The sync procedure is based on a search/lock strategy, i.e., no decision is made before a verification strategy (or repeated threshold testing) is applied. For practical purposes, the proposed solution could be implemented as a hardware device external to the convolutional periodic deinterleaver.
