Structure and dynamics of fieldaligned currents inferred from EISCAT data
Abstract
Common Program (CP) 3 experiments were analyzed from 1984 to 1987 to provide a statistical model of the distribution of field aligned currents from 61 to 72 degree invariant latitude. Statistics are first performed on horizontal currents computed from EISCAT measurements of electric fields and from a conductivity model. This conductivity model results from the combination of the model of solar produced conductivities statistically determined from the same data base by Senior et al (1991) and of the statistical model of conductivities due to particle precipitation (Hardy at al, 1987). The distribution of field aligned currents is computed from the divergence of height integrated horizontal currents. It is examined as a function of magnetic activity.
