Transverse modes of curved-mirror waveguide resonators
Abstract
An interative computer model is used here to compute resonator mode losses for linear, square-bore, and CO2 waveguide lasers with curved mirrors, taking variations in guide length, guide-mirror distance, mirror curvature, and mirror tilt into account. The multimode matrix model allows a search for regions of resonator parameter space which promise low loss and/or good mode suppression and/or tolerance of cavity perturbation such as mirror tilt. The common Case II reflector, sometimes viewed as guaranteeing near-TEM(00) mode performance, is shown to be alarmingly sensitive to small misaligments for certain guide geometries.
