Cleanliness considerations in the design, manufacturing, and testing of satellite surface tension propellant tanks
Abstract
The requirements, philosophies, considerations, and techniques applied to achieving and maintaining cleanliness in satellite surface tension propellant tanks are overviewed with the objective to compile a compendium of cleanliness considerations for the tanks. Generic cleanliness requirements and propellant-tank cleanliness requirements are outlined, and focus is placed on clean rooms and areas, contamination-control plans, cleaning and drying, cleanliness verification, and maintenance of cleanliness in manufacturing, testing, and shipping and storage phases. It is pointed out that thorough attention paid to the design of a propellant management device and to how it will be assembled and installed in the tank provide the basis for how easily cleanable a tank assembly will be.
