HyperRaman scattering and 3photon resonant ionization: Competitive effects
Abstract
A semiclassical theory of hyperRaman scattering and threephoton resonant ionization via the coupled densitymatrix and Maxwell equations is presented. A simplified threelevel atom model is obtained, which includes twophoton resonant pumping and time dependent photoionization rates. We consider conditions typically encountered in atomic vapors to simulate numerically pulse propagation. A strong depletion of the photoionization probability in the hyperRaman field saturation regime is predicted.
