A simple method to stabilize the frequency of semiconductor lasers
Abstract
A method to stabilize the frequency of a semiconducotr laser is described. Results based on stabilization to an absorption line of iodine vapor are presented and compared with those of the purely electrical stabilization method. Beside the simplicity the advantages of this method include high reproducibility, unmodulated laser output and freedom to stabilize the laser frequency to any desired value. The laser will be particularly suited for interferometric applications in optical metrology.
