Thermal photon production from high-temperature nuclear matter
Abstract
Thermal production of photons from hot hadronic matter and from quark-gluon plasma is calculated. Both the overall production rate and and the shape of the energy distribution are found to be very similar for both production mechanisms at fixed temperature. As a result, photon production rates can be used as a thermometer to measure the temperature of hot nuclear matter, with results that depend only weakly on the state of the matter.
