Crystal growth and lasing performance of Cr-doped LiCaF6 and LiSrAlF6 crystals
Abstract
Techniques are described for growing Cr(3+)-doped LiCaAlF6 (LiCAF) and LiSrAlF6 (LiSAF) crystals, and the results of flash-lamp-pumped lasing with these materials are presented. The Cr-LiSAF laser was found to be efficient and tunable from 780 to 1010 nm. This is the second-largest tuning range observed for potentially practical solid-state lasers.
