Liquid-droplet interactions in an atomizing turbulent jet
Abstract
An extensive measurement program was carried out at 65-130 diameters downstream of an atomizing turbulent jet which was generated by a pressure atomizer. Simultaneous measurements of the velocity and droplet size distribution were obtained. The effect of turbulent fluctuations on the evolution of the droplets was studied and it is found that the time scales of the turbulent motion is of the same order as the vibration modes that are necessary for the deformation of the droplets.
