Multiphoton production of electronpositron pairs in a plasma by a transverse electromagnetic wave
Abstract
The probabilities for multiphoton electronpositron pair production in a plasma by transverse EM waves are determined by solving the Dirac equation in the lowest order in perturbation theory with respect to the small parameter eA/omega. It is shown that this process can occur in a plasma of ordinary density in constrast to the case of singlephoton pair production, which is possible only in a superdense plasma. The probability for multiphoton electronpositron pair production in an arbitrary direction in a vacuum induced by a periodic electric field is also determined.
