Dynamics of lasers
Abstract
The dynamic properties of lasers are treated in the general context of nonlinear dynamics. The typical features of the nonlinear dynamic behavior of lasers are examined with reference to simple illustrative examples. Attention is then given to the mathematical concepts of the nonlinear dynamics of lasers, characterization of chaotic behavior, two-level single-mode lasers, and lasers with saturable absorbers. The discussion also covers lasers with added degrees of freedom, three-level optically pumped single-mode gas lasers, multimode lasers, and transverse effects and spatial instabilities.
