The Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars - Errors and uncertainties
Abstract
This paper examines the ramifications of redundant data taken from recent observations of over 100 stars that lead to revised estimates of their distance from the sun. Attention is given to the previous misclassification of spectra which suggested that the stars are within 25 parsec from the sun and therefore included in the third edition of a catalogue of nearby stars. It is concluded that while different parallax estimates can be given separately, one resulting parallax should be given that describes the best available data.
