Sequential Decays of the UPSILON(3S)
Abstract
Using the CUSB-II detector at the CESR e ^+e^- collider we have studied exclusive decays of the Upsilon(3S). In a sample of 1.33 times 10^6 Upsilon(3S) decays we find about 400 events from the electric dipole cascade Upsilon(3S) to chi_{b}(2P) gamma to Upsilongammagamma to mumu(ee)gammagamma. We measure branching ratios for chi_ {b}(2P) to Upsilongamma and derive the hadronic widths of the chi _{b}(2^3 P_{J}) states. By comparison with QCD predictions we obtain values for alpha_{s} . We present the first observation of the suppressed cascade Upsilon(3S) to chi_ {b}(1P)gamma to Upsilon(1S) gammagamma and obtain an upper limit for production of Upsilon(1^3D_ {J}). We also determine the branching ratios for Upsilon(3S) to Upsilon pi^{0}pi^{0} and measure the dipion mass spectrum for Upsilon(3S) to Upsilon(1S)pi^ {0}pi^0.
