Pi modes in slot resonators
Abstract
A rigorous mathematical model is used to determine the excitation efficiency of the slot resonators of a diffraction grating as a function of the slot depth and width. The antiresonance excitation minima are found to behave anomalously in the case of Pi modes up to the point where they intersect with the resonance maxima and are suppressed. The implications of the results for practical applications are briefly examined.
