Travelling Convection Rolls in a Binary Fluid Mixture
Abstract
The Rayleigh- Bénard convection in a binary fluid mixture confined in a rectangular container is studied. The two-dimensional MAC scheme is used to simulate spatio-temporal evolution of the governing equations of motion. Convection develops defect-induced counter-propagating waves and eventually evolves into a localized travelling wave state.
