The Orbital Period Changes of UX Ursae Majoris
Abstract
It is found that the orbital changes of the eclipsing cataclysmic variable UX Ursae Majoris are aperiodic. This eliminates apsidal motion and the revolution of the eclipsing system around a third body as feasible explanations of the period variations. An origin in the magnetism of the secondary appears possible, but the details are not clear.
