Plasma and magnetic field effects associated with Phobos and Deimos tori
Abstract
The plasma and magnetic-field effects in the neighbourhood of orbits of Phobos and Deimos are analysed. The distinct disturbances in plasma parameters and in the magnetic field are clearly manifested. The data give the examples of a rather strong interaction with some shock-like signatures. Observations from the Phobos 2 spacecraft suggest that gas/dust tori/rings reside along the Mars moon orbits. The tori are partially immersed in the subsonic Martian tailward flowing plasma. Thus it may strongly disturb the dynamics of the magnetospheric plasma.
