Fundamentals of a fiber integrated Brillouin ring laser gyro
Abstract
The Brillouin ring laser gyro (B-RLG) configuration is investigated as a possible way of realizing stable and controlled bidirectional lasing in a ring cavity, a basic requirement for performing active ring laser rotation sensing. The B-RLG configuration, an analog to its He-Ne RLG counterpart, outputs angular information digitally; it also exhibits a lock-in effect of the same order of magnitude as that of conventional He-Ne RLGs. An all-fiber implementation of the B-RLG configuration is described, demonstrating the low cost potential of the B-RLG with an accuracy comparable with that of the standard He-Ne RLG.
