Gamma-ray burst observations: overview of recent results.
Abstract
The author presents a brief overview of the main observational characteristics of gamma-ray bursts (GRB), taking into account the latest results obtained by three missions: GINGA, PHOBOS, and SMM. After a short summary of the main temporal characteristics of GRB, two aspects are discussed: the spectral characteristics of GRB, and their spatial distribution, taking into account excellent models recently developed, mainly by Hartmann and colleagues, and by Paczynsky. These models allow to reconcile many of the divergences reported in the past.
