Deep ROSAT observations in a faint quasi-stellar object survey field.
Abstract
The most direct way to identify the source of the X-ray background is by obtaining deep X-ray exposures with good resolution, identifying the optical counterparts, and then following them up with optical spectroscopy. Previously, the best attempt at this was made by Griffiths et al. (1988) using the Einstein X-ray satellite. The authors describe here a very recent attempt to check and improve on the Griffiths results in a different field.
