Iron implanted with different doses of aluminium ions (5 × 10 16-5 × 10 17cm -2) at 50, 100, and 200 keV is studied by conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. Doses of 1 × 10 17cm -2 are sufficient to produce strongly disordered layers. Depending on the implanted dose and energy their short range order is Fe 3Al-like or FeAl-like. Annealing of the samples effects precipitation and crystallization processes. Between 400 and 600 °C the FeAl-like order is transformed into a Fe 3Al-like order. At 700 °C the influence of the aluminium implantation is strongly decreased and α-iron is the predominant phase.
