Conversion gain and stability of a resonant tunneling diode harmonic mixer
Abstract
A simple method is presented for the estimation of conversion gain and stability of subharmonically pumped (SHP) mixers, on the basis of double barrier resonant-tunneling diodes (DBRTDs). Attention is given to the limitations encountered in practical implementations of SHP mixers which employ the present DBRTDs; it is shown that the devices can be designed in such a way that the RF and IF conductanced required are realizable via transformation from a standard 20-nS source and load conductance. The DBRTDs can be designed to furnish a local oscillator conductance which will facilitate matching.
