The properties of electrostatic turbulence and observations of non-Maxwellian distributions of charged particle fluxes in the low-latitude magnetosphere
Abstract
Electrostatic turbulence above a threshold value with respect to the density of background plasma, e.g., cone instability, is shown to be one of the causes of the generation of charged particle fluxes with a non-Maxwellian velocity distribution in the low-latitude magnetosphere. Several calculations are presented of frequencies and oscillation growth for electrostatic cone instability for the cone loss index in the frequency region between the second and third gyrofrequency harmonics in the wave number space where the oscillation growth is greater than 0.
