Zones of intrusion of solar cosmic rays into the polar caps during the anisotropic event of February 16, 1984.
Abstract
SCR penetration zones into the Northern Hemisphere polar caps during the solar proton event of Feb. 16, 1984 were investigated on the basis of data from VLF radio paths, riometers, and the DMSP-F6, F7 polar satellites. It is shown that the SCR penetration zone was made up of two parts: (1) a region of direct particle penetration on the morning side of the auroral zone and in the center of the polar cap and (2) a precipitation zone of quasi-trapped particles extending along auroral latitudes, with the particles drifting from the morning side to the evening side.
