Improved design procedure for multiplierless FIR digital filters
Abstract
An algorithm for optimizing the design of multiplierless finite impulse response digital filters is described. In the procedure, real filter coefficients are first obtained by a standard method, are truncated, and finally are represented by either single powers of 2 or sums or differences of two powers of two. It is shown that, compared with both the conventional design methods and to other multiplierless design algorithms, the technique yields simpler realizations.
