Possibilities for the application of a new expression for the distribution of the electron density in the D-region
Abstract
The main characteristics of a new analytical expression for the vertical distribution of the electron density Ne(h) in the D-region are analyzed. The new expression for the profile of the lower ionosphere is found to substantially facilitate analytical calculations in comparison with the one used in IRI-79. Approximate formulas for Ne(h) at the upper and lower boundaries of the D-region are derived, and the TEC in this region is found. The new expression for the electron rate profile is especially effective when determining the absorption of radio waves in the lower ionosphere. The formula under consideration makes it possible to find expressions for the absorption in quadratures unlike the unsolvable integrals with respect to IRI-79. This expression can be applied in a number of analyses, including that of the anthropogenic influence on the lower ionosphere.
