The strong absorption lines in the supernova 1987A spectrum during the first months after the explosion : variations of lines of heavy elements.
Abstract
Variations of equivalent widths W-lambda and depths d-lambda for Ti II, Fe II, Ba II, and Na I absorption lines during the first months after the explosion of SN 1987A are analyzed. It is shown that the fall of the envelope temperature gave way at a certain stage to a rise in temperature, and that this led to a dramatic change in the W-lambda(t) and d-lambda(t) curves. Rough estimates show that the observed weakening of the Ba II lambda 6142 line and the approximate constancy of the Fe II lambda 5169 line in the interval t = 25-120 d is due to a temperature rise of 1500 K.
