Statistical analysis of data during the processing of planetary observation data
Abstract
Data-processing results are presented for ground-based and space observations of the moon based on the optimal mathematical model principle. Some of the mathematical models which are used for the processing of planetary observations were found to be incorrect. Accuracy at the processing stage can be enhanced by taking advantage of the possibilities of modern applied statistics and computer technology based on the optimal model principle. The main limitations of the usual models in selenodesy and photographic astrometry are shown to be the following: abundance of model items, presence of dependent items, and violations of other assumptions of the least squares method.
