The decay of granular motions and the generation of gravity waves in the solar photosphere
Abstract
The solar photosphere was investigated using a coherence analysis of rms-velocities. Results confirm that there is a distiction between the granular structures of the lower photosphere and the secondary structures of the higher photosphere. It is shown that the conversion of motions occurs well below a height of 200 km. In the layers of the higher photosphere (above 170 km) structures are found in the wavenumber range from 2.5 M/m to 7.0 M/m with a dominant scale of about 4.0 M/m. It is concluded that secondary motions are generated by decaying granular motions.
