Young ammonia clumps in the Orion molecular cloud.
Abstract
The results are reported for ammonia mapping observations with the Effelsberg 100-m telescope towards molecular clumps associated with IRAS sources in the Orion L1630 and L1641 clouds. Sixteen regions have been mapped with an angular resolution of 40 arcsec. Two clumps of particular interest studied in this survey are the cores associated with the IRAS sources 05338-0624 and 05405-0117 and their physical characteristics are discussed. The statistics of the survey are compared with results of similar studies (Benson and Myers, 1989) of the Taurus cloud. The Orion cores have a median linear diameter of 0.17 parsec as compared to 0.08 parsec in Taurus. The median clump mass in Orion is 16 solar masses which is about four times larger than the correspondent value in Taurus.
