CosmicRay PitchAngle Scattering in Isotropic Turbulence
Abstract
The divergent conclusions emerging from previous investigations of cosmicray pitchangle scattering in isotropic magnetic turbulence can be reconciled by incorporating a dissipation range in the turbulence model. Utilizing an isotropic turbulence model that includes dissipation, the authors calculate the FokkerPlanck coefficient for pitchangle scattering and find that the "slab" form of FokkerPlanck coefficient favored by Jokipii is valid at very low energies, while the nonslab form obtained by Fisk and coworkers applies at intermediate energies.
