Low frequency scattering by a planar crack
Abstract
The problem of elastic wave scattering by a planar crack is considered in the lowfrequency limit. The total displacement field is expanded into a power series of the wave number. Each coefficient of the expansion is the solution to the same crack under prescribed static loading. Thus, the scattering problem is transformed into a series of static equilibrium problems, which are easier to deal with. The method has the potential to be applied to cracks in anisotropic solids.
