Comet P/Helin-Roman-Crockett was discovered shortly after a long-lasting and complex encounter with Jupiter. The author studied the reliability of the proposed capture making variation on the orbital elements in the range of observational uncertanties. He analysed also some long-lasting captures and the stability of their planetocentric orbits during the encounter.
