Microstructure and optical microscopy of Pr containing cuprates
Abstract
PrBa2Cu3O(7-x) which is orthorhombic and twinned, is not a superconductor. PrBa2Cu3O(7-x) and Er, Pr cuprates, without an alkaline earth, have been prepared and examined with electron and optical microscopy. Colors of polarization have been observed in the Er, Pr cuprates together with a difference in color between the phases of PrBa2Cu3O(7-x) similar to the difference between tetragonal ErBa2Cu3O(6+x) and orthorhombic ErBa2Cu3O(7-x). The implications of these colors and color differences with regard to detecting Pr-based cuprate superconducting grains at room temperature will be discussed.
