Fabrication and application of high current density, high Tc superconducting thin films and devices
Abstract
High-Tc superconducting thin films can be made using a variety of techniques and substrates. High critical current density Jc above one million A/sq cm at 77 K is generally obtained only on epitaxial films. Epitaxial films of YBa2Cu3O(7-y) to form all high-Tc junctions and SQUIDs. While junctions have been fabricated using both sandwich and edge geometries, the present observations indicate that the edge junctions give the best and most reproducible results. While such structures require developing a multilevel technology, there are several advantages of edge junctions which are reviewed. SQUIDs made from these devices show quantum interference effects up to about 62 K.
