Modal test and correlation of the commercial Titan Dual Payload Carrier
Abstract
The Dual Payload Carrier Assembly (DPCA) was developed to provide the capability to launch multiple payloads into orbit using a single Titan launch vehicle to provide an alternative space transportation system. This DPCA comprises a forward and aft payload adapter cone, a forward and aft extension module, a payload fairing, and a boattail and skirt. Technical objectives included defining all primary modes below 45 Hz with a traditional orthogonality goal and verifying linearity utilizing sine excitation. A combination of multiple input random and sinusoidal excitation techniques permitted the test article to be completely tested in less than 48 hours and excellent agreement was achieved between random and sinusoidal excitation tests.
